Camping with Mobility Camp – improving access at Burning Man

Get Ready for the 2024 Burn!!  Since almost all of our Campers are in the High Risk groups for Covid-19, We encourage those interested in camping and volunteering with us (it’s the same thing, please see below) to make contact as soon as possible, and to be prepared to pay for their camp share cost.

Some notes about Camping with Us:

If you wish to Camp with us, you should understand that we are a Service Camp, not a ‘Party Camp’ We are located right on the Inner Circle of Center Camp, where there are strict noise restrictions at night. rs.

WE ARE NOT CAREGIVERS!! You need to be able to set up and take down your personal area (tent or what have you) and take care of all your personal needs.  If you are not able to do that, you must bring a caregiver or two with you.Disabled camping at Burning Man. Accessible camps at Burning Man.

Mobility Camp campers volunteer to work at least 4-5 shifts  throughout the week, and we would really like it if you could work more! The work is not hard, volunteer duties include assisting with Playa and Art Tours, which means riding along with the driver, to help with the loading/unloading of mobility challenged, as well as able bodied Burners.  Also available are shifts helping at the front desk, the Obstacle course. The Playa Tour trailer goes out 4 times a day for about two and a half hours, and 2 tours count as one shift. Both these give you lots of time to see the Art and the City! It is awesome! You will have a chance to sign up for the shifts you want well before the Burn. bilities at Burning Man? Camp at Burning Man.

Working the the front desk involves involves signing people up for the tours, explaining how to use the “Charging Station”,  giving out information to Burners about how to be more wheelchair friendly at their camps and art camps, as well as how mobility impaired folks can prepare themselves and their camps for a great Burn! They also sign out our loaner wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and knee scooters. There are three shifts per day, and the desk is open from 8am-9pm. Email us for more information…..

This year we will again be running an obstacle course for both a wheelchair and crutches so that able Bodied Burners can experience the Playa from the perspective of the Mobility impaired. Volunteering there includes giving the wheelchair or crutches and monitoring the obstacle course while they run it.

Benefits of Camping with us include that we are on the BM power grid – so camp provides the ability to  charge/run your C-pap, electric wheelchair or mobility scooter.Burning Man for Handicapped?

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate those on respirators.Handicapped on the playa. Handicapped camp.

The biggest benefit is that you are able to contribute to a MUCH needed service to your fellow Burners! Many folks just assume that there are no wheelchair folks or other types of mobility impairments at Burning Man at all! We want to be sure no one misses out because they don’t think it’s possible for them!M

Share Costs are currently $150 – they are due February 2024.  We have a community kitchen tent and gathering area, if you have an RV or Camper, you are welcome to cook and prep there, but if not, we ask all others to prep and cook in the Kitchen area.  It has a tarped floor, so MOOPing is made much easier at the end of the event. (There will be a meal Plan available at a seperate cost) We will help teach you how to conserve cooler water as well as methods to cut way down on water use in the kitchen.

We have a lot of fun and it’s a great way to give back to the City!elchair Camping on the Playa. BM mobility camp.
